Die spannende BBC-Serie spielt in England kurz nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs. Im Zentrum steht die berüchtigte “Peaky Blinders“-Gang, benannt nach ihrer bevorzugten Waffe: einer Kappe mit einer Rasierklinge in der Spitze. Angeführt wird die Bande vom ehrgeizigen Gangster Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy), der zusammen mit seiner Tante Polly (Helen McCrory) und seinem Bruder Arthur (Paul Anderson) die Straßen seiner Heimatstadt Birmingham in fester Hand hält. Das ändert sich, als er eines Tages eine Lieferung von Maschinengewehren entwendet. Dadurch zieht er die Aufmerksamkeit von Winston Churchill auf sich, der den Chief Inspector Chester Campbell (Sam Neill) auf die Kriminellen ansetzt. Doch damit fangen die Probleme erst an.
