Nachdem sein 17-jähriger Sohn Jason (Rafi Gavron) fälschlicherweise wegen eines angeblichen Drogenvergehens zu zehn Jahren Gefängnis verurteilt wurde, gibt es für den Vorstadt-Familienvater John (Dwayne Johnson) nur eine Möglichkeit, den Filius zu retten. Die knallharte Staatsanwältin Joanne Keeghan (Susan Sarandon) bietet ihm für die Freiheit seines Sohnes einen sogenannten "Snitch" an: Er muss sich den Behörden als Undercover-Ermittler zur Verfügung stellen und ihnen helfen, dem Drogenboss Malik (Michael Kenneth Williams) das Handwerk zu legen. Da er Betreiber eines Speditionsunternehmens ist, liegt es für John nahe, sich von dem Kriminellen als Kurierfahrer einstellen zu lassen. Ständig in Gefahr aufzufliegen, muss John die Organisation von innen heraus zerstören. Um den Urteilsspruch gegen Jason zu widerlegen, ist ihm kein Risiko zu hoch und er schreckt auch nicht davor zurück, sein eigenes Leben aufs Spiel zu setzen...
