"Der unsichtbare Dritte" gilt als einer der großen Geniestreiche Alfred Hitchcocks. Sein rasantes Tempo und der perfekte Spannungsaufbau waren wegweisend für die Entwicklung des modernen Thrillers. Selten betrieb der Meister des "Suspense" einen vergleichbaren Aufwand für einzelne Szenen: Im UNO-Gebäude von New York wurde, wegen des allgemeinen Aufnahmeverbots, sogar mit versteckter Kamera gedreht!
Die Geschichte vom braven Werbefachmann, der für einen Spion gehalten und quer durch die USA gehetzt wird, ist Krimi Unterhaltung erster Güte. Nicht wenig Leute halten diesen Film für Hitchcocks besten.
